Vaporising clouds is easy enough,’ I thought, ‘but how do I make them bigger?’ I concentrated on trying to puff up the white, fluffy clouds that were rolling over the hills from the west but, if anything, they seemed to be shrinking.
I was sitting comfortably ensconced on a grassy spot at the top end of a sloping field, listening to the hum of the cicadas waft over the fields. It was warm sitting in the sun, protected from the winter’s breezes by the tall grasses around me. From my position I could gaze over the stalk heads and down into the trees that lined the creek, a hundred metres distant. Thoughts began to turn inwards and with eyes half closed, looking up at the fluffy white clouds on the horizon, I began drifting into meditation.
Lines of energy began to swim before my eyes. They looked like tiny pieces of glowing white rope, undulating up and down. Each would only last an instant, appearing and then disappearing from my sight. A curious phenomenon, I thought, as I watched these shining energy lines moving across my inner vision.
Eventually tiring of their repetitious movements, I struggled to fall back into meditation. At one point, with the undulating lines still flashing across the inner sight, I opened my eyes. My gaze drifted down along the pathway that ran parallel with the hill. Strange white lines were bobbing up and down amongst the tall grasses. They looked like headless snakes that wriggled up and down - rather than from side to side as snakes normally do – and they were moving in a line along the pathway away from me. I squinted my eyes against the bright sunlight, not really believing what I saw. Were these white lines larger versions of the energy lines that had been floating across my eyes? There were perhaps half a dozen of these energy snakes, following each other nose to tail; and the realisation came that they must be moving along an energy line. The pathway followed an energy line!
From my stomach region I could feel energy being drawn out of me. The further away these energy snakes moved, the greater the draw became. Sensing that they were somehow connected to me, I sent a call through the ground to draw them back. They hesitated and slowed. I called again, watching hopefully as they stopped and began to come back along the path; but then they stopped and gathered where two pathways cross, refusing to come any closer. I watched their writhing dance as the winter sunlight flooded down upon the open field. With the energy drain eased I stood up and, with a great deal of curiosity, began to walk along the path in their direction, my eye upon them.
As I walked along the narrow trail that separated the tall grasses, I could feel the earth under my feet. A warm stream of energy was flowing underneath the pathway, moving up into my legs, and almost drawing me along. I stopped on the dirt track, feeling this warm blissful energy rising up into my body and watching the energy snakes writhing amongst the tall grasses.
My attention was drawn down to the energy flowing beneath my feet and I could follow it with my mind as it ran along this pathway, passed where the snakes were tumbling together, and wound its way towards the front of the land. As it neared the creek it arrowed down towards the circle of rocks at the campsite, and then crossed the water and disappeared up the hillside opposite.
I neared the energy snakes, twisting and turning in a huddle where the two pathways met. They weren’t holding my attention now and so released them from my mind. They all quickly hurried off, once again forming an undulating line, nose to tail, and disappeared down the track amongst the grasses and trees towards the front of the land.
I wandered along slowly behind, pausing often to gaze around at the view from the hillside, and absorb the energies. A little spot amongst the trees called. I dropped down off the track and found myself sitting on a grassed area, gazing down into the creek, surrounded by wonderful tree energies, and fell into the stillness.
Dusk was falling by the time I had wound my way down to the creek and arrived at the campsite. It was growing murky under the trees and there was a chill creeping into the air now that the sun had fallen behind the mountains. I stood near the circle of rocks and looked along the energy line where it crossed the creek and ran up the other hillside. Through a gap in the trees I could see a place on the hill that I had visited just the week before.
I’d been standing by the creek when the strong desire to walk up there had arisen. Unable to resist I had wandered up, drawn to a large whitish log lying on the ground about one third of the way up the steep hill. Beside it I’d found a heap of tumbled and broken rocks, perhaps piled up by a bulldozer that had made a rough track nearby. Scattered amongst the rocks were large lumps of quartz crystals, and I had rested there, sitting on the log.
It was very pleasant under the trees in the gathering twilight and I lingered near the rocks of the camp circle, enjoying the energies. The small flying insects were few at this time of the year and the cool air had yet to settle.
A light drew my attention. Something was shining beside a tree near the camp circle. Yet I felt no rush to investigate, happy just to watch the last of the daylight fade. As the darkness increased, the light grew. An image began forming. Still I lingered, gazing across the silent hillside, watching as the last sketches of pink and purple cloud faded in the western sky, and up to the first stars twinkling prettily above. The whitish grasses of the field across the creek caught the last of the fading light and for a few moments glowed as with an inner radiance, before quickly fading.
With a final deep breath of the cool scented air, I turned my gaze towards the faint light glimmering near the tree. The light was brighter now amidst the deepening night and I stepped through a gap in the circle of rocks, gazing down at a glowing oval of misty white light that stood about waist high against the base of the tree. I moved over closer to it with palms open. The energies were friendly and open. Placing a hand on the tree, I bent down and stepped into the light.
It was very soothing within in the oval of the light but I soon tired of my awkward pose. The tree arched over above where the light stood, and I had to hunch down to keep both feet within the circle of light. As soon as I straightened, the curve of the tree would strike me in the middle of the back – I could feel the rough bark through my shirt – and push me forward again. By hunching over, and bracing myself with my hands on my knees, I could maintain my stance within the oval light. Twisting my head to peer around the tree trunk, I looked along the energy line as it crossed the creek and cut through the grassy fields of the hillside, passed the log and pile of rocks, and through an opening amongst the trees higher up.
As I stood there, hunched down in the oval light and trying to maintain my position under the tree trunk, a large energy snake slowly began easing itself out of my body. I watched in baffled wonder it as it flowed out from around the solar plexus region of my body – ‘man-sized’ is what came to mind. It was glowing white in the dim twilight, as long as I was, and undulated like the smaller energy snakes had. When its full length had left my body, I watched as it headed down the creek bank towards the water. Crossing the creek it began following the energy trail through the grasses of the lower field and up the hill. Was it a conglomeration of the many smaller energy snakes?
As it moved away I began to feel uneasy. It was still clearly visible, shining white in the gathering gloom, but the further away it moved, the greater the anxiety became. Earlier, when the smaller energy snakes had moved along the pathway away from me, energy had been drawn from my middle. What would happen this time, I wondered, with so large an energy snake?
I decided to call it back. I sent a message, marked urgent, along the energy line. And when there was no reply, sent another after it. For a moment I thought that it hadn’t heard, but then the glowing energy snake hesitated, and stopped, and then suddenly reared back, fighting against the command. A tussle ensued. I sent another command - an order, a plea - along the energy line. It turned, to draw near the other side of the creek, but wouldn’t cross it. Like a frisky dog let off of its leash, it wouldn’t quite come within catching distance.
So, with allowing in my heart, I let it continue. It moved off steadily once more, cutting through the grasses and up past the pile of rocks, undulating along the energy line in the dark. I watched until its glowing white form had disappeared out of sight amongst the gloom under the thick trees.
The night grew dark. I stood up, cramped from my position; wondering about, and in wonder, of what had just happened. There was no desire to leave for home just yet. I felt settled and comfortable now, wanting to linger in the energies a little while longer. I glanced around the campsite. The fire circle looked inviting. Quickly gathering twigs and dry leaves I soon had a small fire going. The flickering flames lit up the overhanging trees, throwing a red cocoon over the little campsite. I sat on the large creek rocks of the circle, enjoying the warmth of the fire and the stillness of the night.
